Clarkson puts his foot in it again with sick Oscar joke

- STAFF REPORTER

JEREMY Clarkson is known for putting his foot in it but yesterday he was given a lesson in how to behave with dignity by the parents of Reeva Steenkamp.

Clarkson plunged to a new low in his boorish behaviour when he made a sick joke about the murder of Steenkamp while taking part in his recent show in Joburg, which they were forced to change to the Clarkson, Hammond & May Live tour, dropping the Top Gear branding following the BBC axing of Clarkson for punching a producer of Top Gear.

Members of the audience took videos of the latest incident in Joburg and uploaded it onto YouTube.

During the live show, Clarkson accidentally shot an audience member with a paintball gun.

As the man was led away for treatment, Clarkson said: “I thought he was a burglar,” and James May replied, “was that a member of the audience you just shot in the bathroom, no, then it can’t have been a burglar then, can it?”

Oscar Pistorius told police that he had thought his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp was a burglar in the bathroom of his luxury house when he gunned her down on Valentine's Day, 2013.

Yesterday when Saturday Star contacted the lawyer who has represented the Steenkamp family, Tania Koen, for comment, she said she had spoken to June Steenkamp and they did not want to dignify the incident with a response.

Meanwhile, according to the British Sunday Times, Clarkson has confirmed that he will be returning to TV to host a new show, and Hammond and May will be joining him.

Netflix, the American provider of online media streaming, is believed to have signed them up.

Netflix is not yet available in South Africa but is rumoured to be thinking of broadcasting to this country.
