Looking for love in all the right places

-

ARE YOU a single woman looking for love? Then your best chance of finding an unmarried man is near South Africa’s prisons, which have the highest concentrations of unmarried men compared with women.

But don’t despair, says Stats SA. While that might be a “deal breaker”, you can also locate your ideal man in South Africa’s industrial areas, rehabilitation centres and mines, where there are high ratios of unmarried men. Hospitals tend to have high concentrations of unmarried women.

Next time you’re looking for love, “consider the computations and calculations of the humble statistician”, says Stats SA ‘s bean counters of their Valentines’ Week data map, because “Cupid just got smart”. Its love team produced maps based on data from the 2011 Census, zeroing in on unmarried people between the ages of 20-34.

“There is hope. We promise. From left field in the realm of dating advice enter the statisticians, who combine data and geography to show you where you can look for love.”

In Joburg, its data reveals that unmarried women tend to congregate in the northern suburbs, in areas such as Melrose and Robin Hills and also in Rossmore.

And what about the single men? Try Droste Park, George Goch, Denver and Riverbend, which are home to more unmarried men than women.

In Cape Town, Bellville West, Bosonia and Mouille Point are the top places to find your dream women, while your future man is likely to live in in Bellville Central and Harbour Island.

In eThekwini, unmarried men wander in Summerveld and KwaMashu A but unmarried women can be sought in Doon Heights and Field Hills. – Sheree Bega
