DEVELOPMENTS in Sandton CBD, a section of Sandown, are stimulating demand for upmarket residential accommodation, not only in Sandown, but in other popular suburbs such as Morningside and Parkmore.
Peter Corbett, principal of Corbett Investment Properties, says the area has enjoyed vigorous growth with the completion of leading corporate headquarters, including the Sasol and Discovery buildings. These add to major institutions such as financial, legal and accounting headquarters which thrive in the vibrant commercial sector of Sandton CBD.
Corbett says his agency has penthouses available for rental in the region at more than R100000 per month, or luxury units for sale at R20 million.
He mentions “highly desirable” apartments, hotels and mixeduse developments in Sandton, which include Metropolis on Park, Michelangelo Towers, Raphael Penthouse Suites and the Da Vinci, designed to suit the lifestyle of the well-heeled.
Sandton’s popularity as home of the Sandton City shopping mall and Nelson Mandela Square, which are at the heart of what is known as the “richest square mile of real estate in southern Africa”, make Sandown and surrounds notable and fashionable addresses, says Corbett.
“Outside the CBD, the rentals and sale prices in Sandown are more affordable. Buyers are taking advantage of what Sandown and the Sandton CBD district have to offer,” says Corbett.
He cites the range of reputable public and private schools as well as clinics in Sandown and neighbouring suburbs as factors that enhance its image as a highly sought-after area.
