Copa Coca-cola set to launch tournament anthem
‘We believe music and football are intrinsically linked’
COCA-COLA, through the Under 15 Copa Coca-cola tournament, will launch an anthem titled I am a Winner in collaboration with music sensation Thato Sikwane, popularly known as DJ Fresh, and vocalist Kayla Neilson.
The road to creating the song began at the start of the Copa Cocacola tournament in the Eastern Cape in June during the provincial finals round where DJ Fresh, alongside DJ Franky, identified teens attending the matches to be part of the Copa Cocacola anthem.
This year the anthem will include crowd-sourced sound bites that will be collated from the respective Copa Coca-cola provincial rounds across the country.
The upbeat anthem promises to be a versatile and dynamic creation, including different sounds and dialects that will reflect the varied styles and cultures of celebration throughout the country.
The Copa Coca-cola anthem will appeal to young and aims to inspire a triumphant spirit and bring communities together in song.
DJ Fresh said: “It is such an honour to be involved in the production for such an anthem that speaks to the youth through music.
“The co-created anthem will be a sound track for the fans to celebrate the tournament and to encourage the teams and supporters to continue to believe in themselves,” said DJ Fresh.
Puso Makume, Coca-cola Africa sponsorship manager, said: “Through our partnership with DJ Fresh, we looked at a collaboration that enables connections with enjoyable moments for the players, spectators and Copa fans who are involved in this year’s edition of the U-15 Copa Coca-cola tournament.
“We believe music and football are intrinsically linked by the passions they evoke and our collaboration with DJ Fresh and the spectators has culminated in an exciting and inspiring anthem,” said Makume.
The completed anthem will be debuted at the Copa Coca-cola national finals that conclude in Port Elizabeth today.
The music video featuring DJ Fresh will be launched on Tuesday.
The way a team plays as a whole determines its success. You may have the greatest bunch of individual stars in the world, but if they don’t play together, the club won’t be worth a dime.
