Saints’ ded ication pays off

-

A GREAT set of results for the St Stithians Boys’ College rowers at the weekend’s provincial championships and a fair reflection of the hard work, team work and dedication shown by every member of the Saints rowing squad.

The first big result came in the Under-15 single scull rowed by Easton Allman. He rowed with length and rhythm into the headwind, being rewarded with a gold medal, just 0.6 of a second in front of the King Edward VII School sculler.

In the U14 double sculls, Shane dos Reis and Nika Duffin rowed well to pick up a silver medal. In the most competitive race of the day, the U15 quad, stroked by Panashe Kurehwa, did well to come home in fourth.

The U14 octuple put together a good race to finish third and the U16 eight were just edged into sixth place by the crew from Jeppe.

The 1st fours raced well. The coxed four stroked by Cameron Brammer finished fifth and the coxless four stroked by Sheldon Nash took home bronze.

The Sunday finals started off well, with Nathan Schmidt coming a respectable seventh. The two U14 quads came third and sixth.

The U15 double of Nhlanganiso Mdima and James Astfalck came sixth against some tough competition, and the U15 octuple narrowly missed out on the medals, this time the Jeppe crew getting the better of Saints.

Both U16 fours qualified for the final eight. The U16 four stroked by Lambros Sioutas and coxed by Michael Cane rallied well after a disappointing eight result to pick up the bronze.

In the final race, the 1st eight stroked by Nashe Mucharambeyi, put everything into a well-executed race, but it just wasn’t quite enough, the boys having to settle for 4th, 1.8 seconds off the crew from Parktown. Gold in the U15 Single Scull Silver in the U14 Double Bronze in the U14 Octuple Bronze in the U14 Quad Bronze in the U16 Coxed Four Bronze in the 1st Coxless Four
