Emma Gomes, Caitlyn Koekemoer), U16 4+ (Second: Claire Lourens, Cassidy Mckinon, Kayleigh Dennill, Katelyn Young, Katarina Oliveira), U19 2- (Third: Tyler Myburgh & Kayleigh Potgieter), and U19 1st 4x (Third: Jade Alves, Shannon Love, Dannielle Ritson, Jenna Rae, Simone Correia). THE Gauteng Canoe Union School League hosts races throughout Gauteng at various dams on a monthly basis and includes juniors representi­ng schools from Pretoria / Parys / Lowveld area as well as Wemmer Pan, Germiston Lake, Emmarentia Dam, Centurion, Florida Lake, Homestead Dam.

The races are age-appropriat­e distances, including sprints and marathons from January through to November, and the young canoeists compete in their age groups from Under 8 through to 18 years, earning points on a sliding scale for every race completed.

The year-end total points accumulate­d are credited to the school represente­d, the club and the individual­s earn trophies / medals as well.

There is an annual Interprovi­ncial Inter-school Sprint Kayaking competitio­n in the country every year, as well for the youngsters to try out against schools in other provinces, developing a keen sense of competitio­n.

During 2018, the top three primary schools were St David’s Marist, Inanda (Prep), The Ridge, and Parys Laerskool.

The high schools achievers were Parys Hoerskool, St David’s Marist, Inanda (High) and Parktown Girls, while the top clubs represente­d were Dabulamanz­i, Soweto Canoe and Recreation Club, and Likkewaan (Parys).
