CLEGHORN IS FCA MARKETING HEAD

FIAT Chrysler Automobile­s (FCA) South Africa has announced the appointmen­t of Jason Cleghorn as the new head of marketing and product across the

Alfa Romeo, Jeep, Fiat, Abath and Fiat Profession­al Brands. Cleghorn joins FCA from Maserati South Africa, where he was previously employed in the role of marketing director – sub-saharan Africa, over the course of the last three years. During this time, he helped manage the successful re-launch of the luxury sports car brand into the local market. Previous to this, he also held the same role of marketing director at Ferrari South Africa.

DRIVERLESS TYRE TESTS

THE technology company Continenta­l has commission­ed the first driverless tyre test vehicle for a wide range of road surface types at its test site in Uvalde, Texas,

US. The aim is to make the test results for Continenta­l’s passenger and light truck tires more conclusive and minimize the impact of the test procedure on the results. The new test vehicle is based on Continenta­l’s automated Cruising Chauffeur, which was developed for freeways. The test vehicle is controlled using a satellite-based navigation system. Equipped with camera and radar sensors, the car will be able to react immediatel­y to people, animals or other unexpected objects on the track, even without a driver. The developmen­t team from Uvalde is thereby contributi­ng to making Continenta­l’s Vision Zero strategy for accident-free driving a reality.
