FBI could review Jussie Smollett case
GRAND CANYON WEST: Two people died at the Grand Canyon this week in separate incidents that included one man stumbling over the edge of the rim while trying to take photos, officials said.
Crews are trying to recover the body of the Hong Kong man who fell at Grand Canyon West, on the Hualapai reservation outside the boundaries of the national park, spokesman David Leibowitz said.
His identity has released.
The fall happened on Thursday morning when not many visitors were at Eagle Point, known for the Skywalk, a horse-shoe shaped glass bridge that juts out from the canyon wall.
Meanwhile, authorities at Grand Canyon National Park to the east were trying to identify a person believed to be a foreigner whose body was found on Tuesday evening in a wooded area south of Grand Canyon Village.
The cause of death is being investigated, park spokeswoman Vanessa Ceja-cervantes said. |
Agency (ANA)
not been CHICAGO: The FBI was investigating actor Jussie Smollett before US President Donald Trump tweeted on Thursday that the agency and the Department of Justice would review the case, which the president called “an embarrassment” to the nation.
Some former federal prosecutors say there are enough anomalies to justify a review of why prosecutors dismissed all 16 felonies. Among the red flags they cited: the level of secrecy around the proceedings; prosecutors’ contradictory explanations and the absence of any requirement that the accused accept responsibility in exchange for dropping charges.
Investigators believe Smollett hired two brothers to stage the January 29 attack and that he hoped the attention would help advance his career. |
