‘Wish you weren’t here,’ guitarist told

-

ROCK legend Dave Gilmour’s bid to turn a derelict Turkish baths into a luxury seafront home has fallen foul of his disgruntled neighbours.

They claim the air conditioning wanted by the Pink Floyd guitarist will cause too much noise.

Gilmour, 73, and his wife, novelist Polly Samson, 57, are building a home in a conservation area opposite the beach in Hove. But neighbours say the three air conditioning units on Medina House will disturb the peace.

One told Brighton and Hove City Council: “They will create considerable noise. Units shouldn’t be positioned on the outside of the building.”gilmour, whose Pink Floyd albums include Dark Side Of The Moon and Wish You Were Here, has already faced protests over his plans for the Victorian building.

In 2016, the Save Hove From Property Tycoons group satirised the Floyd hit Another Brick In The Wall, writing: “We don’t need no demolition, we don’t need no thoughtless plans, no tall dark shadows across our windows. Leave Medina House alone. Hey, Gilmour, leave our ’hood alone. All in all it’s just another betrayal of us all, to you it’s just another brick in the wall.”

There are 13 objectors to the latest plans, which will be considered by the council next week. A report to planners said the air conditioning units “will include an acoustic wall lining to prevent sound reflecting”.

The Gilmours bought the building in 2015 and demolished it last year. They are rebuilding it in a similar style, and plan to move there from their mansion less than 90m away. | Daily Mail
