Talent search uncovers up-and-coming producer in Joburg

COGNAC brand Rémy Martin partnered with Riky Rick to search for South Africa’s hottest up-andcoming producer.
And, after a long period of deliberation, they’ve revealed the Johannesburg’s top five.
Rémy Producers landed in South Africa with a bang and has continued to build momentum after more than 2 000 entries from budding producers were submitted.
“It has been incredible to listen to the kind of beats we have been receiving,” said Riky Rick, who with Master A Flat, has been working tirelessly to select Joburg’s best beats.
“South Africa is madly talented, and cutting down the finalists to get to the greatest beats hasn’t been easy,” he said.
“We’ve heard everything from maskandi to Afropop, kwaito and gqom. We’re confident we’ve selected the right five.”
In no particular order, the Rémy Producers Jozi top five producers are Phelemo Phalane Dennis Masilo (Profound), Vhutshilo Ndlovu
Mashoto Mokoba and Anda Macuna
They then spent a few days in the studio with Riky Rick and Master A Flat and later performed their beats to an audience at the Rémy Producers Johannesburg regional final at Taboo.
The producer with the best beat will win a spot in the finale next month. Though the competition was tough only one winner was announced – Danise Masilo, aka Profound from Carltonville.
Speaking about the upcoming regional events in Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town over the next month, Rémy Martin marketing manager Jerome Adonis said; “We’re looking forward to seeing some raw talent and for the producers to simply be themselves.”
The grand finale will see the top producer from each city battle it out for a once-in-a-lifetime prize, a chance to work with Riky Rick and co-sign on a track with him. Only one producer can win the coveted prize.
