Beaulieu are tops
BEAULIEU College enjoyed great success this last hockey season and sealed their year when their U-16 and 1st girls’ hockey teams won the prestigious Howell and Pullen Tournaments at the weekend.
It is an honour not only to play in the Howell Pullen hockey tournament but to win gold in both the Howell and Pullen Girls’ Hockey finals. This made history.
Beaulieu College finished the U-18 Pullen Trophy final in the first place when they played against Garsfontein Hoërskool and beat them 4-3 after a tense penalty shoot-out.
As this was the first time the U-16s had entered the Howell Trophy, they competed in the B section which proved to be extremely competitive. After remaining unbeaten through the tournament, Beaulieu College’s U-16s won their final 3-1 against Waterkloof and thus gained promotion to the A section for 2020.
The Pullen and Howell Trophy is an annual girls’ U-18 and U-16 hockey tournament, which attracts some of the top hockey-playing schools in Joburg and Pretoria.
