WHO IS THE NEW MAYOR?

SELLO Enoch Morero becomes Joburg’s first citizen a little less than a year shy of his 50th birthday, and takes the hot seat that has seen six mayors come and go in three years.

Better known as Dada, Morero got a taste of politics while still at school when he joined Cosas. Later he entered public service where he first worked in the SAPS secret service, before going on to working for the Department of Home Affairs.

Some of his tasks, according to his biography on the Gauteng Partnership Fund website, included investigating criminal syndicates, and preparing dockets.

Morero’s introduction to the City came in 2008 when he was appointed Director: Customer Communications and Marketing. Three years later he was elected as regional secretary of the ANC in the Greater Johannesburg Region.
