EV strategy

TOYOTA is considering a reboot of its electric-car strategy to better compete in a booming market it has been slow to enter, and has halted some work on existing EV projects, four people with knowledge of the developing plans said.

The proposals, if adopted, would amount to a dramatic shift for Toyota and rewrite the $38 billion (R700bn) EV roll-out plan it announced last year.

A working group has been charged with outlining plans by early next year to improve its existing EV platform or for a new architecture. Toyota has also halted work on some of the 30 EV projects it announced in December. | Reuters

Girl power

FORMULA One is planning to set up an allfemale junior series to help women racers climb the motorsport ladder, according to recent media reports. Sky Sports television and other media said the series could debut as early as next year with a focus on 16- to 22-year-old drivers.

They said it would complement the existing W Series, which cancelled its last three races this season after running into financial difficulties but whose organisers are confident it will return next year.

Formula One said it was committed to ensuring greater opportunities for female racers to progress and would provide more details in due course. Reuters
