Wallis Simpson Cartier Panther bracelet
Prince Edward VIII, the third husband of Wallis Simpson, famously relinquished his throne to marry the twice-divorced American socialite. During his courtship
of Simpson, the British royal showered her with lavish gifts of jewellery. In 1952, the couple commissioned Cartier to design the panther bracelet, among other pieces. The bracelet features 545 pavé set diamonds, onyx stones and two emeralds for the silver cat’s green eyes. At a Sotheby’s auction in 2010, it became the most expensive bracelet sold at auction, for $7 million (R99m) and is
the most expensive Cartier item sold at auction.
