NORTH West University (NWU) is proud to be associated with the Esports Protea team. Being ranked in the top 5% of universities globally by the QS World University Rankings and contributing the second-largest number of graduates to the South African labour market annually, NWU always strives to be associated with innovative and new initiatives and in the development of sporting codes.

The rate at which esports has developed over the years, and initiatives taken to formalise and develop international leagues, is something NWU prides itself on.

As part of its involvement and in collaboration with all the partners, it is looking to further develop the sport in schools across South Africa.

NWU is the first university to sponsor esports in South Africa, and sponsor a national esports team attending the International Esports Federation’s World Championships.

Mind Sports South Africa president Amanda Pakade believes the sponsorship speaks directly to NWU’S innovative and progressive attitudes.

Mind Sports South Africa is confident that Mind Sport and NWU will be able to add even greater value to esports in the country. MIND Sports South Africa is proud to announce that ZAG Academy is an official part-sponsor of South Africa’s National Protea Esports Team that will attend International Esports Federation’s 10th World Championships – Kaohsiung City, Taiwan.

ZAG’S aim is to grow esport in South Africa at grass-roots level and transfer that to premier level. ZAG supplies a comprehensive esport support service providing everything from coaching and infrastructure to administration. The academy imposes a model within the industry where experience gained at top levels is directly relayed to grassroots. This approach ensures it seeds the next generation of top athletes within its programme.

This has been proven over the past few months through the enormous success of its pilot programme.
