Waver­ley school races to a win

CON­GRAT­U­LA­TIONS to Holy Rosary School’s row­ing team for plac­ing 3rd at the re­cent Gaut­eng Ju­nior Row­ing Cham­pi­onships. Some of the stand­out re­sults were: Un­der-14 1x (First: Jeanne Rie­mann), U14 2x (First: Jeanne Rie­mann & Courtly Ni­col­son), U14 4x (First: Jaime Fletcher, Jeanne Rie­mann, Courtly Ni­col­son, LAST week the team from St Mary’s School, Waver­ley, Ju­nior School won the an­nual Pres­tige ath­let­ics meet­ing for the third con­sec­u­tive year.

Nine girls schools com­peted in both track and field events, with the ma­jor­ity be­ing closely con­tested af­fairs.

Through­out the meet­ing, the points dif­fer­ence was min­i­mal, ul­ti­mately leav­ing the fi­nal plac­ing to the re­sults of the re­lay races.

The St Mary’s Ju­nior School ath­let­ics team emerged vic­to­ri­ous, fol­lowed by St Peter’s Girls’ Prepara­tory School in sec­ond place and Kingsmead Col­lege Ju­nior School placed third. ZEINAB Kone, a Grade 5 pupil at St Mary’s School, Waver­ley. Zeinab won the Un­der-11 high

per­for­mance sec­tion for South Africa at the Zone 5 rhyth­mic gym­nas­tics com­pe­ti­tion. She re­ceived four gold medals and a sil­ver. Com­pet­ing coun­tries in­cluded An­gola, Namibia

and Zim­babwe.
