HOW can the world feed nearly 10 bil­lion peo­ple by 2050 in ways that help fight poverty, meet cli­mate goals and re­duce en­vi­ron­men­tal pres­sures? Eat less beef and lamb, level off pop­u­la­tion growth, cut food waste, limit bio­fu­els and in­crease fish sup­ply through wild fish­eries man­age­ment and aqua­cul­ture, among oth­ers. This is part of a five-course menu of solutions in a re­port by the World Re­sources In­sti­tute, a global sus­tain­abil­ity think-tank, this week. It sug­gests it is pos­si­ble to pro­duce 56% more food on the same amount of land, while low­er­ing green­house gas emis­sions by two-thirds. | Sheree Bega
