The secret regime that keeps kate’s weight great

The duchess makes exercise a non-negotiable in her daily routine, and the results are apparent for all to see

That such a svelte silhouette belongs to a woman who gave birth only about eight months ago, never mind one who’s had three babies in the past five years is hard to believe.

Yet, at the age of 36, the Duchess of Cambridge looked strikingly sylph-like in a pair of skin-tight jeans and a black polo-neck as she showed off her tennis skills on a royal engagement recently.

As any mother knows, Kate’s shape can only be the result of real dedication. But then it can’t be easy when you are sharing a Buckingham Palace balcony with a sister-in-law like Meghan, who is hot off the Hollywood red carpet.

While no ordinary woman can reasonably be expected to regain her pre-baby body for the third time so quickly, the burning question is how does Kate manage to look so great?

After the birth in April of

Prince Louis, Kate has only started performing public engagements over the past few months.

And it seems her five months maternity leave has given her time to think about an image revamp as well as to study the form of her stylish sister-in-law.

While Meghan may have got through an incredible 41 outfit changes during her first official foreign tour to Australia, at home Kate’s making sure her own outfits are just as eye-catching.

She brought a touch of

Hollywood glamour to a state dinner at Buckingham Palace when she wore a steel blue ruched Alexander Mcqueen ball-gown, her most daring to date.

So could some of Meghan’s style be starting to rub off on her sister-inlaw? The pair are certainly starting to share more designer labels.

Since Meghan joined the royal family, Kate has also opted for more youthful, less matronly styles, such as the cap-sleeved, bright yellow, form-fitting Dolce and Gabbana dress she wore to Wimbledon which could just as easily have been found in Meghan’s wardrobe.

FIT FOR ANYTHING

Kate has always viewed exercise as a non-negotiable part of her daily regime.

Her appearance on the tennis court in Essex recently echoes her first solo appearance eight months after the birth of Prince George.

Then, she wore identical skinny jeans to take part in a game of volley-ball and her Breton shirt rose up to reveal a stomach that was already wash-board flat.

Her decision to wear a similar figure-hugging outfit just six months after giving birth showed how confident Kate is.

A royal insider says: “Kate was concerned about the effects on her figure of a third child, particularly as she is also moving towards her late 30s. So she has made an extra special effort in toning up.”

ABS ATTACK

Kate has been performing multiple sets of leg raises on a large mat, according to a palace insider. This helps to bring the rectus abdominis or six-pack muscles that separate in pregnancy back together again.

THAT WASPISH WAIST

Kate has a slender waist for any woman let alone a 36-year-old mother of three.

Her secret is her on-going dedication to developing strong core muscles with regular post-natal abdominal exercises. While most moms have to trek to the gym,

Kate is lucky enough to have the run of high-tech equipment at her Kensington Palace home.

After the school run, she also visits her sister, Pippa, who recently gave birth to her first child, at her mansion which also has a fitness studio. The sisters are said to follow up their sessions, set to their favourite music, with a massage and a light organic lunch.

Kate enjoys plenty of spinning on her exercise bike, and cycles in the countryside when she wants some fresh air.

THE ARMS RACE

Swimming plenty of lengths at the private pool at Buckingham Palace has also sculpted Kate’s lean arms. “Kate is a fast and effortless swimmer and has given George and Charlotte great water confidence.”

Her other arm exercises are racing Louis in his pushchair around the gardens of Kensington Palace to his squeals of delight, closely followed by the family’s cocker spaniel, Lupo.

STRIKE A POSE

Kate has concentrated hard on her posture. She looks long and lean, thanks to yoga.

Although Meghan has the reputation for being the royals’ biggest devotee, Kate is also a keen follower of the discipline.

While Meghan practises Vinyasa, which emphasises the smooth flow of movements, Kate follows Iyengar, which puts the emphasis on alignment and precision and is also responsible for streamlining Nigella Lawson’s figure. As a result, Kate is more supple than she has ever been.

WHAT A RACKET

Kate is a mad-keen player. She has also worked hard to start George and Charlotte in the sport, saying that her eldest child already loves to whack’ the ball. Observers who have seen the children on court say they are showing early signs of good hand-eye co-ordination.

Kate is always up for a game of singles, too, against her husband. She has been overheard saying it’s one of the only sports in which she can beat William, who is also a keen all-round sportsman.

GOLDEN GLOW

Much of Kate’s glow is down to plenty of exercise, fresh air and a consistently healthy diet. Her long devotion to sun protection has helped keep the first signs of ageing at bay. Since her pregnancy with Princess Charlotte, she has also been a devotee of rose hip oil to help guard against stretch marks.

Despite having given birth to three children, Kate has barely gained a pound since her royal wedding day in April 2011.

While she does not believe in dieting as such, she always makes health-conscious choices about what she eats.

Kate is said to enjoy a green juice daily, often containing the algae spirulina, kale or spinach.

Breakfasts include bircher muesli with oat bran topped with blueberries, snacks of oat cakes with peanut butter or hummus and lunches of lean protein and salads flavoured with garlic, ginger, herbs or lemon.

The 1.75m duchess has long, shapely legs. While they have always been strong, Kate’s legs have stayed toned, thanks to regular running sessions.

During gym sessions, she gives them extra attention by wearing ankle weights while doing leg extension exercises to work her hamstrings.

To avoid saddle-bags, Kate does sets of abductor and adductor exercises to target the inner and outer thigh muscles as well as lunges. | Daily Mail
