SACP prepares for Joe Slovo memorial
THE SACP will host the annual commemoration of the death of its former leader Joe Slovo tomorrow.
Slovo, a politician and co-founder of the ANC’S military wing umkhonto we Sizwe, died 24 years ago. His commemoration is held every year at Avalon Cemetery where he was buried. SACP generalsecretary Blade Nzimande will deliver a keynote address which will outline working class priorities for this year.
Representatives of the Alliance and the Young Communist League will also deliver messages.
At the time of his death, Slovo was the national chairperson of the SACP. He was a member of the national executive committee and national working committee of the ANC, and the first Minister of Housing after the 1994 elections.
Slovo was also the generalsecretary of the SACP and was succeeded by Chris Hani. |
