Crafting a Worthy Successor

-

DJI are world leaders in the art of drone design. Their name has become synonymous with cutting edge technology, crystal clear visuals, and adventure-filled photography and videography. Adrenaline junkies and wanderlust-filled travellers have flocked to DJI to take their feat photography and exploit videography to professional levels. In late April 2020, DJI debuted the Mavic Air 2, a worthy successor to their original, smaller model. Billed as one of the best drones on the market, the Mavic Air 2 offers 48MP stills, 40K/60p video at 120 Mbps and 8K HyperLapse, allowing for better image capturing than ever before on an Air model. The Mavic Air 2 boasts a top speed of 68km/h and a 34 minute flight time and weighs just 570g. Not only can this drone keep up with the action with Spotlight 2.0 subject tracking, but it also offers the option to capture imagery in one of the SmartPhoto modes, designed at improving the picture quality. The SmartPhoto modes include HDR, where the camera captures seven different exposures and combines them for greater dynamic range; Hyperlight, which captures multiple low-light images and combines them to avoid grainy, dark pictures; and Scene Recognition, where the drone will identify five components of a picture (sunsets, blue skies, trees, grass and snow) and alter the image setting to better optimise the photograph.
