A safari with a Difference

-

There are a few obligatory things visitors to Cape Town make sure they experience. one is a hike or cable car trip up the iconic Table Mountain, and another is wine tasting. Durbanville Hills winery has found a way to combine these two bucket list expeditions with a unique offering.

Visitors to Cape Town can now experience Table Mountain, one of the seven Natural wonders of the world, with the Durbanville Hills Table Mountain safari, which also includes a wine tasting. This offering is the first and only of its kind and was made possible through an arrangement with sanparks. Tours are permitted access to the restricted sections of the old, abandoned Devil’s Peak road as well as other routes, offering visitors panoramic views of Table Mountain’s surrounds.

The tour begins in the morning at the bottom of Tafelberg Road. Henri Bruce is the exceptionally knowledgeable and friendly guide who has worked with sanparks and the Table Mountain tourism authorities for many years, and knows the mountain like the back of his hand. Expect to be amazed by his rich knowledge of the flora, fauna, and hidden secrets of the mountain.

once on the customised, open-air safari vehicle, the tour begins and guests can choose between two routes (or opt to do both, weather permitting). The first is along the old Devil’s Peak road to the old King’s Blockhouse – a national monument that offers spectacular views of the Peninsula and Durbanville Hills wine Estate. The other is a private road on the Camps Bay side of the mountain where guests can enjoy incredible views of the iconic Twelve Apostles Range, lion’s Head, and the azure Atlantic – truly magical during sunset with a glass of wine in hand.

At each location, comfy camping chairs are set out, a delicious variety of Durbanville Hills wine is poured (rather generously, I might add), and a mouth-watering spread of breads, cheeses, charcuterie, chocolate, and more is laid out.

The Durbanville Hills Table Mountain safari is an exceptional experience and a wonderful way to spend a day with friends or family while enjoying two of Cape Town’s most revered things: the mountain and exceptional wine.
