Miami in Camps Bay

One of the most glamorous locations in Cape Town is undoubtedly the exclusive beach suburb of Camps Bay. Luxury boutique hotel South Beach takes the glitz up a few degrees by exuding the feeling of being in Miami, Florida.

As I stepped into South Beach, clean lines, light hues, and elegant décor immediately caught my attention. There is a sense of sophisticated minimalism to this beautiful five-star establishment, and with gorgeous views of the ocean and beach front, I was already starting to look forward to my sundowners later that day.

South Beach, which has only 19 suites, is just a few steps away from Camps Bay Beach – a Blue Flag Beach that is the place to be, and be seen, during Summer in Cape Town. All of the suites are sea-facing and include a balcony or patio which, I soon found out, are the ideal places to relax with a cup of coffee (courtesy of the Nespresso machine in the kitchen) in the morning, as well as a glass of wine from the well-stocked mini bar in the evening.

Being self-catering, each suite includes a fully-equipped kitchen with all that you might possibly need to whip up delicious meals. However, one of my favourite features was that, in the morning, freshly baked croissants and baguettes were delivered to my door. The refrigerator was also stocked with a range of delicious breakfast goodies so that I could spend the morning languishing in a fluffy bathrobe while enjoying breakfast in my spacious suite, looking out onto a beautiful sunny day in Camps Bay.

However, if cooking is not in your cup of tea, the location of South Beach means guests are close to some of the best restaurants in the area.

Every detail was carefully considered when it came to kitting out the suites. The bathrobes, slippers, and linen are of the finest quality, and the little extras, such as lint roller, Pilates matt, and exercise band show the dedication to guests’ comfort.

The glamour of Camps Bay and the refined luxury of South Beach culminates in the property’s rooftop pool. Here, I indulged in a cocktail while the view of the ocean stretched out before me, while still feeling the pull of the immaculate South Beach suite.
