Seven Deadly Sins

In Chinese philosophy, the yin yang duality describes how seemingly opposite states may actually be complementary, and therefore interconnected, like light and darkness, sickness and health, life and death, virtue and sin. Using the same concept, the famous Swiss psychiatrist and psychoanalyst, Carl Gustav Jung, identified the shadow self as complementary to the conscious self. The process of individuation, of becoming whole, therefore requires an individual to become aware of their shadow side as a first step towards wholeness.
