SuperSport to re-visit Matlaba interest? Ndlovu to decide on Downs move at end of season
Orlando Pirates’ Thabo Matlaba is again being linked with a potential move to SuperSport United, as the January transfer window approaches.

According to Siya sources in the know, Siphesihle Ndlovu will only decide on his proposed Mamelodi Sundowns move at the end of the season.
As reported in the past, Maritzburg United and Sundowns have agreed on terms for the transfer of Ndlovu at the end of the 2018/19 season, although the KwaZulu-Natalbased club’s chairman, Farook Kadodia, confirmed in local media that the player had not yet agreed on the move with the Brazilians.
Siya sources have since informed the crew that Ndlovu has still not agreed on any deal Elizabeth-based outfit at the time – however, Matlaba remained with Bucs in an attempt to fight for his place in coach Milutin Sredojevic’s set-up.
So far this season, Matlaba has made seven starts out of the 11 Absa Premiership matches played by the Buccaneers to date, though the 30-year-old has not featured in any of the team’s cup matches.
The Tembisa-born player has also been excluded from Bucs’ 27-man squad for the initial stages of the CAF Champions League, and with player’s future at the club uncertain, sources have indicated that clubs are tracking the player.
“SuperSport United is monitoring the situation with Thabo Matlaba at Pirates. There is interest in the player from the club,” said the source.
Matlaba was also linked with Kaizer Chiefs, while Mamelodi Sundowns were believed to have also been showing interest in the player during the July/ August transfer window. with Sundowns and is focused on seeing out the current campaign with Maritzburg before making any decision.
It is evident that Sundowns and Maritzburg have a good working relationship, with the Team of Choice recently transferring Lebohang Maboe to the Brazilians, while Yannick Zakri and Keletso Makgalwa moved in the opposite direction.
Ndlovu, who scooped the Absa Premiership Young Player of the Season as well as the Midfielder of the Season award last season, has also been linked with a move abroad, with Siya sources indicating at the time that the 22-year-old would prefer a move to Europe over a transfer elsewhere h in i the PSL.
Now, it remains to be seen what will come of the player’s immediate future at the end of the season, although as things stand, Ndlovu will remain at Maritzburg, with the January transfer window just over a month away from officially opening.
