Golden Arrows 11th & Kaizer Chiefs 5th

Useful facts: It’s going to be interesting to see how Kaizer Chiefs seek to recover from the humiliation of a second loss to their biggest rivals, Orlando Pirates, in the space of a month. The pressure is certainly mounting on both the coach, Giovanni Solinas, as well as the players, who received a bit of a dressing-down from captain Itumeleng Khune in his post-match interview last Saturday. Failure to get maximum points is obviously a scary thought for the Amakhosi faithful, who have clearly made it known that they are not happy with the status quo at Naturena. Their opponents though, Golden Arrows, have their own problems to deal with, as they haven’t had things going quite their way so far this season. They will be keen to bounce back from the 2-1 defeat they suffered to Baroka FC before the international break, and what better way than to pile more misery on an already wounded Soweto giant. Highlands Park 10th & Cape Town City 8th

Useful facts: Cape Town City seem to be experiencing an upsurge in form and have found their scoring boots in recent games, and therefore Owen da Gama’s charge should be wary of them, although home advantage could be the deciding factor in the end. This is likely to be a hard-fought encounter, with only one point separating the two teams on the league table. Benni McCarthy’s men will know that a loss could see them back at the wrong end of the table, while Highlands Park, who have played six draws in their 10 league games so far, have to realise there is more than one point up for grabs in a football game.

GETAFE V ESPANYOL (LA LIGA) League Rankings: Getafe 11th & Espanyol 5th

Useful facts: Espanyol will look to pile on more misery on the home side, who are sitting in the bottom half of the league table. However, despite sitting six positions away from each other, there is not much that separates the two teams. A win for Getafe would ensure they are one point adrift of the visitors and it’s a much-needed victory as well, especially playing in front of their fans. But they are up against an Espanyol side looking to bounce back to winning ways after their 3-1 loss to Girona in their last game before the international break. The last time the two teams met, back in April, Getafe secured a 1-0 victory. Thulasizwe Mbuyane: Espanyol win Soccer 6 Pool: Match 3 Soccer 6 Pool 1 December S6 V1 P1

Black Leopards 14th & Bidvest Wits 2nd

Useful facts: Still smarting from defeat at the hands of unfancied Baroka FC in the Telkom Knockout semi-finals, Bidvest Wits will want to channel all their efforts to grab the three points against Black Leopards, who seem to have their wheels coming off after a decent start to life back in the Absa Premiership. If The Students thought travelling to Limpopo and playing at Peter Mokaba Stadium is tough and uncomfortable, then they may well have another thing coming at Thohoyandou Stadium, where angels fear to tread. The home side will need the 12th man rallying behind them, as they sit in 14th position on the league table. A win for Gavin Hunt’s men could see them back in top spot, depending on other results.

Orlando Pirates 1st & Maritzburg United 15th

Useful facts: The Buccaneers are riding the crest of a wave and are odds-on favourites to dispatch of a Maritzburg United side that has not had things going their way so far this season. The kind of football that Orlando Pirates play, as well as their form in front of goal, could be too hot to handle for the Pietermaritzburg-based side. For so-called smaller sides, there is often no motivation needed to face the big teams and Fadlu Davids will hope that his charges will be up to the task and a win in this encounter could be the start of a change in fortunes. They will need to do better in front of goal though, as they have scored a paltry four goals in nine league games, which is the lowest amount in the league.

Real Madrid 6th & Valen2 cia 11th

3 Useful facts: Valencia, who secured a morale-boosting 3-0 win over Rayo Vallecano in 3 their last league fixture, will face Real Madrid 1 on the back of a UEFA Champions League group stages game against Juventus on Tues3 day. Los Blancos have not quite hit their straps 2 this season, with many suggesting they are not the same team since the departure of Cris1 tiano Ronaldo, but they will surely give them1 selves a chance against a Valencia side that has scored only 11 goals in 13 league games. 3 Madrid’s last league result was a 3-0 loss 1 away to Eibar, before Tuesday’s Champions League fixture against Roma, and they will look to collect maximum points on Saturday in order to remain part of the chasing pack.
