Moleko’s Chiefs option in doubt

-

Kgotso Moleko’s days at Kaizer Chiefs could be numbered, with the player set to enter into the last six months of his existing contract in January.

Moleko has made only one start and one substitute ap- pearance for the Soweto giants in all competitions titi this season. The defender’s last appearance for Amakhosi was in September, against Free State Stars.

The 29-year-old has been left out of coach Giovanni Solinas’ 18- man match- day squads and, according to a source in the know, indications are that the former Bloemfontein Celtic player is unlikely to have the option on his contract extended.

“Kgotso Moleko is nearing the end of his contract with Chiefs and he is unlikely to get a new deal (extension) when the current one expires. He hasn’t been playing regularly,” said the source.

Mlk Moleko arrived id at t Chi Chiefs, f from Celtic, in 2012 and his last contract extension was announced last year in February. At the time, Amakhosi confirmed a new two- year contract for the player, to run until June 2019, and included a one-year option to extend his spell.

As it stands, it seems unlikely that Chiefs will extend the player’s stay, though he could convince the team otherwise in the coming months if he is afforded game-time.

The fact that Moleko was left out of Chiefs’ 27- man CAF Confederation Cup squad could be a sign of things to come for the player.
