Why Carteron didn’t end up at Chiefs – in his own words…

Speaking to Soccer Laduma back in August, the Frenchman discussed the interest from Chiefs, explaining that he was actually keen to make the switch to South Africa as part of the next step in his career.

He said, “I can confirm that I was approached by people that convinced me that they have been mandated by Kaizer Chiefs to negotiate with me regarding the possibility of taking over the coaching post. We engaged in hard and honest negotiations and I think we had advanced quite a lot in our discussions and had covered a lot of ground to finalise my possible move.

“I was quite excited about the prospect of finally realising my dream of working in South Africa. But I never really received a definitive answer from Chiefs. Things never reached the stage where I could sign with them and I ended up taking the Al Ahly offer.”
