Gabuza and the fans
One incident that refuses to escape the collective memory of football followers is that of a certain section of the Pirates fans getting under the skin of striker Thamsanqa Gabuza in a game against Black Leopards this season, this because of what they felt was a below par performance from the former Golden Arrows man. It’s now history that after making an assist, Gabuza reacted by going straight to that section of the supporters, giving them a piece of his mind and throwing his playing jersey at them and walking off the pitch in a clear expression of frustration. Almost all the coaches that have been at Bucs in recent times loved having Gabuza in the team despite his low scoring record, otherwise he would have long left the team. Surely there is something he brings to the team that the supporters perhaps don’t see or realise. The best they could do is to support him for as long as he is wearing the Pirates jersey, but in football, the game of emotions, that’s easier said than done. That said, there is no place for booing in the sport of the masses and the former Golden Arrows man was wrong to react the way he did. Well, all’s well that ends well, as all parties have since kissed and made up. Gabuza has rarely made the team since then, although scored against Light Stars in the Champions League recently.
