Historically Chiefs aren’t trigger-happy…

Over the past decade or so, Chiefs have become known for the fact that they are prepared to afford time to whomever they brought in as their head coach. Most recently, Steve Komphela almost saw out his full three-year deal at the club. He ultimately resigned after unsavoury scenes in Durban that led to Amakhosi ultimately being punished by the league.

Komphela didn’t win a single trophy during his time at Naturena, but lasted almost as long as his predecessor, Stuart Baxter, who won two Absa Premiership titles and two cup trophies during his three-year spell. The Englishman joined in July 2012, and left of his own volition three years later to take on a job in Turkey.

Prior to Komphela and Baxter, Chiefs had Vladimir Vermezovic in charge for just under three years – May 2009 to April 2012 – and though he did get his hands on a couple of cup titles during his time, they never managed to finish in the top two in the Absa Premiership before he exited the club.

Solinas has been in charge at Chiefs for just over four months at this point, and if they were to make the decision to part ways with him come the turn of the year, he would become their shortest-serving head coach since Kosta Papic’s 89-day spell back in 2007.

The likes of the late Ted Dumitru, Ernst Middendorp and Ertugral all lasted about two years before parting ways at Chiefs and Solinas will now be hoping that the club shows the same kind of patience with him this season.
