Park to fend off Downs & Chiefs’ Mokoena interest?

-

Now that the player has caught wind of the fact that both Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs have been sniffing around for a potential deal, right back Luckyboy Mokoena is said to be keen on putting pen to paper elsewhere.

The Siya crew has been informed that the highly rated right back has been offered a new and improved deal by The Lions of the North, though indications are that the player is open to assessing his options elsewhere.

However, the Siya source has indicated it may only be at the end of the season given that Highlands Park would make it near impossible for these two clubs to agree to their valuation of the player. If they want him now, then paying a premium price in the upcoming January transfer would be non-negotiable.

Insiders have informed the Siya crew that Mokoena has been distracted of late following reports that his signature is wanted elsewhere.

“He is important to the club and they will try and offer him a new and improved contract. Mokoena is the only natural right back at Highlands, so they are forced to play him in e every match,” the source said. The Siya crew has also been made aware of how highly the player is regarded by both coach Owen da Gama and management and it’s unlikely, the source suggested, that Mokoena will leave the club next month - during the January transfer window. The assumption is that, with enough time to negotiate Highlands’ asking price, it’s likely that he will leave at the end of the season, should the club agree to the move; unless he agrees to a new and improved contract with Park.
