PORTUGUESE INVITATION FOR FORMER PIRATES YOUNGSTER

-

Darnell Job is set to leave South Africa in pursuit of a new club overseas as he seeks to get his career back on track.

The young defender, who came through the youth ranks at Orlando Pirates and eventually registered with Bucs’ the first team two years ago, is currently in search of a new club after he parted ways with the Buccaneers.

The 20-year-old right back had been registered with Bucs’ first team for two seasons, from 2016 to the end of the 2017/18 campaign. However, the player was allowed to leave Bucs at the end of last season and is now in search for a new club.

As confirmed by the player’s representative, Darryl Dooks, Job went on to sign a professional contract with Polokwane City in August this year. The move did not play out as anticipated, with the player and the Limpopo-based club having since parted ways.

Speaking to the Siya crew, Dooks further confirmed that the former South African U17 team player has been invited for a trial at Clube Desportivo Cova da Piedade in Portugal.

“One of my clients Darnell Job has been invited for a trial overseas, with a team in Portugal. I mean, not even one player whose experience has been from playing in the MDC has ever been invited for a trial overseas, as far as I know.”

Dooks has questioned the local scouting system, criticising the development structures.

“How is it possible that our own local clubs don’t give such (talented) boys professional contracts? This is why our football is lacking development – we fail to see such talent. It’s unfair.

“I mean, he is an U23 player and there are a lot of NFD clubs that could have signed him. Instead, the boy gets to be invited for a trial in Portugal before them,” said Dooks.
