AMAZULU DENY CHAWAPIWA APPROACH

-

AmaZulu have denied a formal approach for one of Baroka United’s star players, though the club’s general manager, Lunga Sokhela, has admitted that he is a good player.

The Siya crew had been informed that h AmaZulu lh have identified d fd Talent l Chawapiwa as a potential target for the January transfer window and that inquiries into his availability had been made.

According to a reliable source, AmaZulu had made their intentions known. “Yes, AmaZulu are chasing Chawapiwa. They approached Baroka about the player’s availability in January, and they (Baroka) are willing to sell if the price is right,” a source told the Siya crew.

When contacted for comment, Sokhela suggested that there could have been an unofficial approach, though made it clear that no official talks have taken place.

“No, that’s not true. Chawapiwa as a winger? No, that’s not true... I mean, we wouldn’t be able to approach him in the first place because we don’t even have any foreign slots. So we haven’t approached – we haven’t officially approached Baroka, we haven’t officially approached the player.

“So whoever made comment to those people, it wasn’t an official thing, you see? Maybe they were just chatting, we don’t know. But nothing official from the club.

“It wasn’t anything official. Look, I mean, he is a good player, don’t get me wrong, but even if we loved him, we have already taken up our quota of foreigners for the season. So it’s practically impossible to sign him,” Sokhela told the Siya crew.

The 26-year-old has attracted interest from a number of clubs over the year, most notably Kaizer Chiefs. The winger has played a key role for Bakgaga since his arrival, and this season was instrumental as Baroka rewrote the history books by clinching the Telkom Knockout.
