Lebese to stay in Tshwane… SuperSport swap deal on the cards?

-

There could be some clarity on George Lebese’s future by the end of the week with a likely swap deal on the cards, the Siya crew has learnt.

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane confirmed last month that the winger, who joined the Brazilians from Kaizer Chiefs two seasons ago, would be leaving the club during the current transfer window.

News reaching the Siya crew is that Lebese could be part of an exchange with cross-town rivals SuperSport United – Thabo Mnyamane being the player that goes the other way.

A high- profile move from Naturena to his boyhood club appears to have ended in disappointment for the 29-year-old Lebese and Mosimane admitted that it just didn’t work out.

Siya sources had already indicated that the player has a few options, including joining either Maritzburg United or reuniting with Steve Komphela, his former coach at Chiefs who has since taken over at Golden Arrows. Cape Town City were also thrown into the mix, but chairman John Comitis denied any communication with Lebese or Sundowns over a move last week.

While his contract will only expire in June next year, a loan move has been proposed – although if Sundowns are able to agree a deal to sign Mnyamane, Lebese could potentially be released early.

A deal of this nature wouldn’t be a first for the two clubs. Jeremy Brockie moved from SuperSport to Sundowns a year ago, while Mogakolodi Ngele was loaned out to Matsatsantsa it what appeared a sweetener despite the Brazilians paying a huge sum for the striker at the time.
