Open letter to fellow supporters

- David Mabu – Gauteng Branch Manager

Compliments of the New Year to all!

It is very unusual to start the year with an open letter, but I felt the need to do so as a way of addressing the issues we are faced with as supporters. A special thanks to Mama Fefe Sonti and the rest of the Supporters Club committee for giving me this platform. Here goes… “You’re one of the most notable groups of people at the stadiums country- wide – vibrant, colourful and sophisticated. You give South Africa and the teams a different yet beautiful dimension, something beautiful to cheer or to be proud of. Your understanding and passion for the game deserve plaudits. As we embark on a new supporting journey in 2019, let us please reflect and try to change the landscape of our sporting fraternity. Let us also support our children at schools as parents, otherwise we are building a fake status quo if they see us on TV, newspapers and magazines but we can’t create enough time to watch them play. They too deserve our help, our time and money, so let us in one voice support and promote their activities. We must always remember that every professional player was once a student or a community player. Let us not only cherish people who don’t know our struggles in our different families. Let us get involved in supporting schools’ football to help create future stars. In so saying, I am not by any means suggesting that we stop supporting our country and our teams, but my personal plea to everyone of us is to be mindful of our little ones and build tomorrow’s stars.” Hopefully my plea will receive your favour.
