African giants turn down Bucs’ R6.5m striker bid

-

According to Siya sources, Orlando Pirates were prepared to splash the cash last month in a sensational bid for a TP Mazembe star, but had their interests rebuffed by the giants from the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Ben Malango, Mazembe’s 25-year-old forward, is thought to have made his way on the Buccaneers’ wanted list as they look to continue building a squad capable of conquering Africa, and this rejection may not be the end of it.

The Siya crew has been informed that Pirates made an offer for the DRC international worth around R6.5 million as they sought to bolster their strike force – however, Mazembe said no and he remained in Lubumbashi as the South African transfer window slammed shut last week.

Malango has been a regular goalscorer for Mazembe in CAF competitions in recent years, bagging seven in the last edition of the CAF Champions League, and it will come as no surprise that there are teams eager to try and bring him on board.

Siya sources have also reevealed that there are teeams from North Africa who have shown an interest n the striker, though his personal preference could be to go south rather than north when considering a move away from Mazembe at some point in the future.

The crew contacted Pirates’ administrative officer, Floyd Mbele, regarding the club’s reported bid, who explained that he was unaware of any interest in the player.
