WITS BUSINESS CONTINUES AS THEY LAND FORMER CHIEFS MAN

-

The January transfer window may have slammed shut, but that doesn’t mean that Bidvest Wits have stopped doing business as they continue to plan for the 2019/20 season.

Gavin Hunt’s side are currently sitting pretty at the top of the Absa Premiership standing after 19 games, five points clear of Orlando Pirates and six clear of Mamelodi Sundowns, however have played one and three games, respectively, more than their title rivals.

It was a relatively busy transfer period for the Clever Boys over January as they got plenty of business done over the course of the four weeks – however, the majority of their work was done with July 1 in mind as they snapped up a wealth of talent on pre-contracts.

Prince Nxumalo, Brandon Petersen and Sinethemba Jantjie all penned pre-contracts in January, closely followed by Phathutshedzo Nange, while Fagrie Lakay completed an immediate move from SuperSport United after he too had penned a pre-contract in Braamfontein.

Now, according to Siya sources, Wits have moved to secure the signature of former Kaizer Chiefs defender, Zitha Macheke, from Chippa United, another player who is set to officially become a Clever Boy on July 1.

Macheke, 25, has been one of the Chilli Boys’ best performers over the course of the 2018/19 season so far, and the crew reported recently that his showings had attracted interest from Wits as they look to bolster their backline for next season.

The defender will now be focused on keeping up his form for Chippa and helping to try and make sure they retain their place in the Absa Premiership this season.
