Chiefs join Sundowns in Monare interest

-

News reaching the Siya crew is that Kaizer Chiefs have joined Mamelodi Sundowns in the race for one of Bidvest Wits’ star midfielders.

As reported last month, Mamelodi Sundowns have identified Thabang Monare as a potential transfer target for the July/August window, with indications that the Brazilians are already looking at where they can improve their squad for next season.

However, it has since been revealed to the Siya crew that Sundowns are not the only club eyeing Monare for next season. According to sources, Chiefs are also keeping a close eye on the 29-year-old, with the technical team believed to have been impressed with the midfielder’s performances in the current 2018/19 campaign.

Wits exercised the added twoyear option on Monare’s contract last year, which extended his stay at the club until the end of the 2019/20 campaign.

This means that Monare will be able to pen a pre-contract elsewhere in January next year, should The Students not sign a new deal with him, although to avoid losing the player on a free, Wits could listen to offers for the midfielder during the upcoming transfer window.

With coach Gavin Hunt known to reshuffle his squads considerably during the off- seasons, Monare’s future at the Clever Boys is all but guaranteed, although the midfielder has established himself as one of the head coach’s key players.

Now, it remains to be seen whether both Sundowns and Chiefs will look to pursue the 29-year-old’s services at the end of the season and possibly approach Wits with an offer for the player.
