Sundowns have till end of May for Vilakazi…

-

Mamelodi Sundowns are believed to be in no rush to tie down one of their attackers at the club.

Sibusiso ‘Vila’ Vilakazi, who has been ruled out for the rest of the season after an injury to his Achilles tendon, will see his contract with the Brazilians come to an end on June 30.

However, Sundowns do have an added two-year option set in place on his deal and, if exercised, it will see ththe midfielder idfi ld remain i at t ththe club until, at least, the end of the 2020/21 season.

According to Siya sources, Sundowns have indicated that they will take up the option – however, until the option has been activated, his future will hang in the balance.

Downs are expected to take up the option, though if for some reason they decide against it, you can expect a number of clubs willing to open their chequebooks in order to land him on a free.

Kaizer Chiefs were heavily linked to Vila in 2016, but in the end, Downs edged their PSL rivals to his signature. Should he become available on a free, the Soweto giants could reignite their interest.

The 29-year-old picked up his injury while on duty for Bafana Bafana last year, in October, having played his last fixture for Sundowns on October 07, against Bidvest Wits.

He is expected to start his rehabilitation in the coming weeks.
