Soccer Laduma

A HEART-WRENCHING END!

-

I wish to express my disappointment following the news of Wiseman Meyiwa no longer being able to take part in football on the field. This is a bitter pill to swallow as this young man had already established himself in the topflight and now this tragic accident has robbed him of his promising career. I really feel sorry for him and I hope that God will give him strength to move forward. Let me also convey my appreciation to the Kaizer Chiefs family who have shown their support to the lad through this difficult time. As South Africans, we have lost a diamond, as he was part of our junior national team and played a tremendous role in the squad. To his family and the young man himself, we are with you. Pick up the pieces and continue to fight, as this is not the end of the world. God is watching over you, young soldier. Madimetja Vic Mashamaite, Renstown What a sad moment for Meyiwa. Come to think of it, a blooming career brought to a screeching end, owing to injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident. All is not lost though. He must focus on his healing and recovery. We as soccer lovers will keep him in our supplications. After his recovery, he must go back to the books and further his education, what with age still on his side. Siyabonga Nkalambela, Delft Like a bolt from Thor, the Norse god of thunder, the news of Meyiwa’s premature retirement hit me. When the news was announced, I cried a river of tears, and social media pictures that followed did nothing to numb my pain. Thoughts are with his family, who could never have thought their beloved son would one day be confined to a wheelchair, at 19 nogal. That said, I wish he can start focusing on empowering himself with education. I know it is painful, but here’s hoping our youngsters will learn what they must from this episode. Terah Maqepula, Mt Fletcher Let me take this opportunity to wish Meyiwa all the best of luck for his future. What happened was a very unfortunate situation as he is only 19 years of age, but with the grace of God, he will make it through it all. To be honest, it breaks my heart to see a young talented boy going through such an experience and having to quit a dream career he has been working towards for such a long time. Be strong, young man. Phumzile ‘DVD’ Ngwane, Thokoza The football fraternity is disheartened by the premature ending of Meyiwa’s bright football career. We are totally despondent to hear that the agile Kaizer Chiefs midfielder is now wheelchair-bound. Our hearts go out to the Meyiwa family during this trying time. This young man has been contributing immensely to the local game, especially at junior national level. Despite his essentially paraplegic condition, Wiseman is still an inspiration in the world of football and can still help to develop local football in many ways. He should draw inspiration from the remarkable story of Sohail Rehman, who became the world’s first wheelchair-bound coach. Rehman saw that playing football was elusive to him, but was so determined to not let his condition push him out of the game that he discovered a new world of possibility. It isn’t the end of the world for our boy. He should move on and rediscover his new purpose in life. May God grant Wiseman peace and serenity so that he can move forward in life and continue to inspire our young generation. Batsirai Kativu, Johannesburg It was with great sadness that I came to accept the news of the retirement of such a great talent at such a very young age. We as the soccer fraternity have been robbed of so young and talented a player. Not only has this accident robbed Kaizer Chiefs, but the whole country. You still have a wise head above your shoulders. You have the time now to go back to school and empower yourself! We hope and pray that God grants you a miracle and that we will get to see you on your feet – literally so – one day. Tshepo Modike, Freedom Park

JIBE AT JINGLES People have brought forward their differing views on Toni Silva’s attack on coach Pitso Mosimane. Some believe that Toni did well to air the proverbial dirty laundry out in the open, while some believe that the player is a victim of his own jealousy. I have my own

• The speedy player’s recent goal against Highlands Park was his first in 53 league games as Mamelodi Sundowns went on to secure a 2-1 victory.

• That could be attributed to the fact that he started as a central striker in that match. He played as a right back in his eight previous starts this season.

• The former Bloemfontein Celtic man is currently on a 23-game unbeaten streak in the PSL. His previous best unbeaten streak in the competition was a nine-match run between March and September 2016.
