TOPFLIGHT CLUBS TRACK JUNIOR

-

Stellenbosch FC midfielder, Awono Junior, is being tracked by top tier clubs in Mzansi.

Coach Steve Barker’s outfit are at the top of the NFD standings and chasing PSL promotion, with Junior playing a key part in their league run. The 24-year-old has played in all 19 leagues games played to date, after signing for the Cape-based side at the start of the 2018/19 campaign.

According to Siya sources, the Cameroon international has caught the eye of a few undisclosed suitors in Mzansi’s topflight, although no interest has been confirmed as yet. Despite the interest, indications are that he is targeting a move overseas and, at his age, if he continues on his form for the club, a move overseas cannot be ruled out in the future.

His representative, Mirko Agnelli, would not confirm any interest and made it clear that his client is committed to the NFD side.

“Junior is currently committed to Stellenbosch and focused on helping them gain promotion to the Absa Premiership, although interest from other clubs does not come as a surprise as the player had suitors from America before moving to South Africa.

“He is excited at the prospect of playing in the topflight next season, so it’s up to the club to decide on his future once the season comes to an end,” Agnelli told the Siya crew.

The midfielder has less than six months left on his contract, although Stellenbosch have an added one-year option set in place and it remains to be seen what will become of his immediate future at the club at the end of the season.
