Khune agrees to new Chiefs deal in principle?

-

Itumeleng Khune has agreed to a new deal in principle with Kaizer Chiefs, this according to Siya sources in the know, although neither party has confirmed talks of the new deal as yet.

According to the information made available to the Siya crew, Khune’s contract with Chiefs is set to come to an end next year in June, and while he has entered into the last 18 months of his current contract, indications are that he will be extending his stay at Naturena.

In 2015, Khune’s contract situation was, arguably, the most discussed topic in Mzansi.

Khune, Tefu Mashamaite and Mandla Masango all saw their respective deals with Amakhosi expire in June of 2015, and initially all three players we unable to agree on new contracts with the club. After prolonged talks, however, Khune did eventually put pen to paper, while Mashamaite and Masango moved abroad.

Now, with indications that Khune will see his contract expire in 2020, it is believed that the player and the Soweto giants have agreed to a new deal in principle. According to a Siya source, a new two-year deal is being proposed for the 31-year-old, which would see him at the club until, at least, 2022.

It’s unlikely that the club or player will want negotiations to drag out as they did in 2015, as the Amakhosi faithful will be expecting the club to make an official announcement in the near future.

Khune is currently nursing a shoulder injury that has ruled him out for the remainder of the 2018/19 season, though is expected to be back in action for the 2019/20 campaign.
