Phala to escape DC?
Thuso Phala could very well escape a disciplinary hearing at SuperSport United, with both parties believed to be discussing a settlement.
The Siya crew first reported on what now looks to be an acrimonious ending to a successful relationship between Phala and the club when it emerged that off-the-field issues were the reasons why he faced an uncertain future.
It is understood that a settlement between the player and the club could be reached before the end of the current season. If that is fasttracked, Phala could be out of the club before the end of June, before his contract expires.
The 32-year-old was linked with a move away from the club on loan last month, but nothing materialised and he has since remained at SuperSport waiting for his contract to run its course.
SuperSport CEO, Stan Matthews, had spoken at length with the media about how painful it was to take the decision not to keep Phala at the club despite contributing to their success over the years.
“I am disappointed with the way the relationship is ending, but he has been a good player for us and I like him a lot as a person. I didn’t expect the best paid player in the history of the club would be ending his career making comments on Twitter, missing training, and doing things that you don’t expect from a professional. This is the highest paid player in the history of our football club and possibly the PSL,” Matthews told journalists last month.
