Western Cape football legend, Billy Anderson, has passed away at the age of 74 following a battle against Parkinson’s disease.

Anderson was born in Scotland but moved to South Africa in 1968 to play for Durban United in the old NFL. He also played for East London United, for five years, before starting his coaching career. Anderson was recognized in 2014 for his contributi­on to coaching.

He was signed by Hellenic in the 1970s as a player-assistant coach to the late Budgie Byrne, before taking on an assistant role to Frank Lord at Cape Town City - four years later. He subsequent­ly had coaching spells with Old Mutual, Hellenic and Cape Town Spurs, before finishing off with Edgemead.

Anderson passed away last week following a five-year battle with the debilitati­ng illness. Soccer Laduma send condolence­s to Anderson’s family and friends during their time of mourning.
