Amakhosi renew interest in Mbombo

-

Congolese striker Idris Mbombo could still move to the Premier Soccer League after all, Siya sources have indicated.

It is understood that Kaizer Chiefs have renewed their interest in the burly forward as they prepare their shopping list for next season. The crew reported in June last year that Mbombo, 21, was earmarked for an assessment at Naturena prior to the start of the current season, but there was no follow-through.

Mbombo joined Al-Hilal in Sudan from Zambia’s Nkana FC soon after, although it now appears he has re- mained on the Chiefs radar.

According to insiders, he would not be the only forward targeted by the Soweto giants as they look to bolster their attack ahead of the next season. However, given his age, Amakhosi are believed to be keen on finding a balance between an experienced striker and one that can be a prospect – Mbombo being the latter.

He was previously on the books of Al-Shabab in Saudi Arabia and returned to Africa at the begin- ning of 2018 in an attempt o resurrect his career and maybe even catch the eye

f his national team coach FlorentF Ibengé.

Chiefs’ interest in Mbombo would surely ast doubt on the futures of several of their strikers – including the likes of Gustavo Paez, Ryan Moon and Dumisani Zuma, who have all struggled with game-time so far. It means Amakhosi would also have to free up a foreign spot to make room for the Congolese.
