Bucs’ interest in Onyango reignited

-

Orlando Pirates’ interest in defender Brian Onyango has been reignited, this according to sources in the know.

The Soweto giants were first linked to the Kenyan in 2017 and they are believed to be keen on following up on their interest, with a view to luring him to the team at the end of the season.

Fadlu Davids has joined coach MilutinMilti Sredojevic’sSdji’ technicalthil tteam and indications are that Davids, who coached Onyango at Maritzburg United, could be key in persuading the 24-year-old to make the move.

“Pirates have been interested in Brian since two seasons ago. It was them and Mamelodi Sundowns who were interested in the player. But the player’s focus right now is on helping his club out of their current situation on the log,” said the source.

The centre-back will see the fouryear deal that he signed with the Pietermaritzburg-based outfit in 2015 expire at the end of the current campaign, meaning that he could move on a free in less than six months’ time.

According to the source, the Team of Choice are, keen on extending the player’s stay with them though it seems he will not be short of options come the end of the season.

“Maritzburg are keen on extending Brian’s contract, but he

has told them that he wants to first concentrate on helping the team get out of the relegation zone,” added the source.
