Pirates show shock interest in Amakhosi enforcer?

-

Willard Katsande’s name is one that has become synonymous with Kaizer Chiefs over the last decade, however it is thought that there is interest from the other side of Soweto with regards to the Zimbabwean enforcer.

Katsande has been a regular with Amakhosi ever since Stuart Baxter’s arrival back in 2012/13, however he has been left out of the match-day squad completely for Chiefs’ last two games as coach Ernst Middendorp potentially plots for a future without him.

The 33-year-old has played a vital role in all of Chiefs’ re- cent successes – including two Absa Premiership titles as well as wins in the MTN8 and Nedbank Cup – and he is one of the most senior players currently at Naturena as they continue to experience a tough time on the field of play.

With Middendorp possibly looking at options after Katsande, the Siya crew have been informed, in shock news, that there is talk behind the scenes regarding arch-rivals, Orlando Pirates, and the veteran midfield man. The Buccaneers are thought to be considering a possible move for him - should he become avail- able.

Katsande does still have one year left to run on his contract with Chiefs, and while there were indications recently that they were eager for him to retire at the club as he approaches the end of his career, that may change if it appears that he is no longer in Middendorp’s plans.

That being said, even if it does become apparent that the midfield hard man may face an uncertain future at Naturena, whether Chiefs would be willing to see him cross the floor to Pirates is a completely different matter.
