Chiefs enquire about SuperSport keeper
Word reaching the Siya crew is that Kaizer Chiefs have enquired about the potential availability of young SuperSport United goalkeeper, Thakasani Mbanjwa.
The 22-year-old shot-stopper has battled to break into the first team at SuperSport due to the presence of the likes of Ronwen Williams and Boalefa Pule, but with the Glamour Boys enduring somewhat of a goalkeeper crisis, he could get a chance to play if he makes the switch to Naturena.
There are currently questions being asked over Itumeleng Khune’s long-term future as the 31-year-old looks to recover from a serious shoulder injury, while Virgil Vries was dropped from action after a series of blunders in Khune’s absence.
So worrying was Vries’ form, ErnstEt MiddendorpMiddd opted t d tot ddelvel into the market on the final day of the transfer window last month, signing experienced shot-stopper, Daniel Akpeyi; however, the Nigerian was then at fault for Polokwane City’s equaliser over the weekend as Chiefs let their lead slip.
Though they have Bruce Bvuma and Brylon Petersen on their books, the crew has been informed that South African youth international, Mbanjwa, has made his way onto their radar, and that they have already made enquiries regarding a potential move for his signature.
The former Wits shot-stopper would no doubt be interested in the switch given Williams’ longterm deal with SuperSport, though it remains to be seen how much his current employers would be looking for in terms of compensation if they were to agree to letting him move on.
