Amakhosi lose interest in Toaster

-

The Siya crew can reveal that Kaizer Chiefs had earmarked Zambian goalkeeper Toaster Nsabata for an assessment at the club – but his poor form in the last couple of games has caused Amakhosi to look elsewhere.

After a shoulder injury to first choice Itumeleng Khune in January, which subsequently ruled the Bafana Bafana shot stopper out for the remainder of the 2018/19 season, Chiefs went on an exhaustive search for a replacement.

Nsabata, who plays for Zanaco FC, is believed to have been among the targets despite the club eventually going for Chippa United’s Daniel Akpeyi on transfer deadline day as the viable option.

Nsabata, however, had remained on the Amakhosi radar, according to Siya sources.

An understudy to Kennedy Mweene in the Zambian national team, Nsabata has struggled with his form of late in the domestic league and was recently substituted in Zanaco’s game against Kitwe United due to poor form.

It is understood that his inconsistency last month could have forced Chiefs to look elsewhere, and it is not only the South African cl lub that has noticed a drop in n standards from Nsabata.

Reports in Zambia have su uggested that there are oncerns over whether he s indeed good enough to re eplace Mweene, who plays f for Mamelodi Sundowns and has been captain and preferred choice between the sticks for Chipolopolo.

Last week, the Siya crew reported that Amakhosi had enquired about the potential availability of young SuperSport United goalkeeper, Thakasani Mbanjwa.
