MATSATSANTSA KEEN ON PERMANENT MACUPHU DEAL

-

SuperSport United are keen on keeping Mxolisi Macuphu at the club beyond the current season, this according to Siya sources in the know.

The 29-year-old has been impressive for Matsatsantsa since joining the club from Bidvest Wits on loan in January, and according to sources, the Tshwane club is keen on signing the player on a permanent deal from the Clever Boys.

Wits have an option in place, though if the news is anything to go by, the player’s future could lie away from Braamfontein.

“Mxolisi Macuphu will be going back to Wits. He’s got another season on his contract with Wits and he will be going back to the club at the end of his loan. In fact, there’s an option in place for Wits to extend the player’s contract for another two years,” said the source.

Macuphu has scored three goals in the four starts he has made since joining Matsatsantsa and scored the only goal of the game is his team’s 1-0 win over Chippa United over the weekend.

“Look, the player’s move to SuperSport was a good one for him as he wasn’t getting enough game-time at Wits. He wasn’t playing as many games as he should have been doing. The SuperSport move was a good choice as some of their strikers had been battling with injuries. It was a good opportunity for him to go there and play, which is what is happening. He’s scored three goals already and you could say that he is their impact player,” added the source.

Macuphu’s loan move to SuperSport came into effect as part of a swap deal that saw Fagrie Lakay join Wits.

“SuperSport wanted to take the player (Macuphu) permanently, but Wits like him and that is unlikely. The loan deal was done that someone (a club) can take the player for the time being so that he can get enough game-time. He is looking forward to playing alongside someone like Gift (Motupa), who is one of the players he likes and feels comfortable playing with. Gift was also not playing much before, but now he is doing well and scoring goals. Macuphu is also scoring goals, so maybe they will play alongside each other next season,” concluded the source.
