DANIELS FACING UNCERTAIN SSU FUTURE?

-

Siya sources at SuperSport United have informed the crew that defender Clayton Daniels faces an uncertain future at the club as Matsatsantsa continue to usher in a younger generation.

It is thought that Daniels, who turns 35 in two months’ time and still has a year to run on his current contract, could be the sacrificial lamb in Super

Sport’s decision to look to the youth to carry the team forward.

One of the signs that the former Mamelodi Sundowns centre- back could have his game-time significantly reduced if he sticks around was his exclusion from their goalless Absa Premiership draw at home to Polokwane City at the weekend, despite being fully fit.

It should be noted, though, that Daniels has featured in 26 of SuperSport’s domestic matches so far this season - suggesting he remains a key member. But with only five games remaining, coach Kaitano Tembo is believed to have been given the mandate to experiment.

Grant Kekana appears to have been converted from right back to the centre of defence, with Siya sources suggesting to the crew that loanee Phumlani Ntshangase is also earmarked for a role in defence as cover. Ntshangase has mostly been playing in midfield since his loan move from Bidvest Wits at the start of the season. Daniels, it is understood, is not the only one expected to make way.

Morgan Gould is yet to have his contract renewed, which expires in June, and Siya sources told the crew last week that the 36-year-old is currently holding talks regarding his future after football even though the player still feels he has one or two more seasons left in him.
